Reaching Out to
Serve the Community
|
Township government is one of the oldest forms of
government in the United States, dating back to
1636. Our own township is over 150 years old and
continues to evolve with the development of our
community, while maintaining many of the functions it
has had since its beginning: property assessment,
general assistance, programs for the senior population,
voter registration and absentee voting, and maintenance
for unincorporated roads. Click

Join Whole Foods
Market in Their Effort to BAG HUNGER this Holiday
Season
Help Whole Foods Market stock the shelves of local
food charities this winter by making a Bag Hunger
donation for $5, $10 or $20, or by rounding up
your total at the register. Your donation will
represent a grocery bag filled with pantry staples
and produce. All donations made through the "Bag"
Hunger program will provide resources to West
Deerfield Township Food Pantry to help ensure that
food is available for those in need.

Community Partnership
Community Partners for Affordable Housing
(CPAH) is a non-profit that provides affordable
housing to low income households that live or work
in the area. The idea is to bridge the gap between
the high cost of housing and the incomes of many
local residents or workers. Typically, CPAH
buys a blighted property, gives it a green rehab,
and sells it below market value to an income
qualified household. To qualify, a family of 4
could earn no more than approximately
$60,000. CPAH hosts many Service Days where
community members pitch in to help rehab a CPAH
home. Volunteers assist with painting,
landscaping, demolition, removing and installing
windows, and drywall, among other projects,
depending on the individual house. If you are
interested in learning if you might qualify for
affordable housing, or if you are interested in
volunteering at a CPAH Service Day, please contact
Amy Kaufman at 847-681-8746
or
akaufman@cpahousing.org. You
can also find more information at www.cpahousing.org.

It's Easy Being
Green!
West Deerfield Township offers two new services to
eco-conscious residents. Where can you
recycle coffee grounds, lawn clippings, vegetable
peelings
and
used clothing, all in the same place? Your West
Deerfield Township office, of course.
A community composting bin and a textile recycling
depository are recent additions to the grounds of
the township office, located at 601 Deerfield Road
in Deerfield.
"We are fortunate to serve very generous and
ecologically-responsible people in our township,"
said Julie Morrison, West Deerfield Township
supervisor. "These new services are a natural
response to our residents' social responsibility
and general kindness."

Community Support Grants
for Accessibility
West Deerfield
Township is committed to enhancing the lives of its
residents.
To that end, the Township has
developed a program for its residents aimed at improving
their access to the world.
Grants up to $1000 per
household per year will be awarded to residents or their
families to help meet the special needs and extraordinary
expenses which often impede accessibility at home, at
school, the community or the world at large.
Services or expenses which may
qualify for this program include home remodeling/adaptation,
transportation equipment, communication devices, durable
medical equipment, specialized therapy tools, or other
user-centered products or services which foster
accessibility and independence.
Residents with physical
impairment (either permanent or temporary), developmental
and cognitive disability or delays, and some forms of mental
illness should consider applying.
This program is
intended to help those in our community with the greatest
financial need, and should, therefore, be considered,
needs-based.
There is not at this time,
however, an income ceiling.
Applications are
due by March 31, 2012.
The applications should be sent
to the Township Office, 601 Deerfield Road, Deerfield, IL,
Attention:
Julie Morrison-Confidential.
Applications are available in
the township office or your can click on the link below.

Historical Archives
West Deerfield Township is proud to
announce that its historical archives are now online. These
include documents from 1850, which chronicle the beginning
of our township, and continue into the twenty-first century.
Most of the documents are arranged chronologically; they
include minutes of meetings, voting lists, tax rolls,
correspondence, maps and surveys, and other examples of
township business. Those documents that were printed, as
opposed to hand-written, may be searched by such categories
as name, date, and office. Click on the link below. Once at
the site, you may wish to "Browse Available Papers" to view
